Snowman Winter Wall Hanging

I like to use an old wooden thread spool to wrap my binding on when I am ready to sew it to my quilts. It works great and I can unwrap it as I sew. I sandwiched my snowman quilt together today and machine quilted it. In this picture I am sewing on the binding.
Here is a picture of it hanging after I finished hand stitching the binding to the backing tonight. My snowman is smiling and happy to be finally hanging on my wall. My fingers are sore from stitching.
Here is a closer up view of the snowman. He is hand appliqued and made from wool. I can't wait to start another quilt. Or maybe I should finish another one I have started already. I have so many quilts I want to make and complete this winter.

I spent some time in my ceramic studio today also. I haven't been out there lately so I went out there and did some organizing. I am hoping to do a bisque firing in my kiln Tuesday or Wednesday when I have another day off work. I have a big load to fire. I want to give some of my pieces away for Christmas gifts for family and friends. I need to get going on my firings to have them ready for Christmas gifts. They have to be bisque fired then glazed and them fired again. I will try to remember to take a picture of some of my stoneware pieces next time I go out to my studio. Then I can show you a picture of them after I glaze them and fire them. I enjoy making ceramics also. I mostly do functional wares. Nothing super fancy. I love hobbies! Have a great week everyone! Fall wall hanging Completed

Here are a couple pictures of my completed fall wall hanging. I completed it and hung it about a week ago. Its still officially fall at least. I ended up doing just a little machine quilting on it. My snowman wall hanging is almost ready. I just have to machine quilt it and sew on the binding. The crow quilt hanger I picked up at the Minneapolis Sewing/Quilting convention this year from a vender, thought it was cute. I haven't had much free time to quilt lately. I have been busy at work. I did have Thanksgiving off through the weekend which was very nice. We got a little snow Thanksgiving evening and it has stayed. The temperatures have been cold here in Central MN. Hope to post more pics soon. Have a great day! Lisa

Another mini top finished

I finished this quilt top today. It still needs to be quilted and binded. I hope to complete it and my fall mini wall hanging top by Thanksgiving weekend. See previous posts for picture.
I have been rereading the Elm Creek Quilts novels by Jennifer Chiaverini. They are wonderful books! I still have to buy her latest book that was just released. The Runaway Quilt is one of my favorites in the series.
Here is a picture of some of my "critters". They are Nigerian Dwarf and Pygmy goats. They make great pets and are fun to watch in their pasture. There was a little snow on the ground here in Minnesota yesterday but it melted today. The temperature was in the 40's. Some of the lakes here are getting ice on them burr... Hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving! Lisa

Next project

Okay so I couldn't resist starting on my next project. I got four nine patches done and cut out my pieces for the block for my next wall hanging. Its another pattern from Buttermilk Basin. It has a snowman to be done in wool applique.

I had to take some time away from sewing to go outside to collect eggs and feed my critters. Some of my chickens wanted to pose for a picture and be in my blog. I have different varieties of chickens. I like to collect eggs of different colors. My Americana chickens lay green/turquoise colored eggs. Me and my husband had green eggs and ham for supper lol.  Please comment on my blog if you'd like. I would love to hear some comments. Or become a follower. When I get 100 followers I will have a fat quarter pack give away. Thanks Lisa

finished wall-hanging top

It was nice to have the day off work today to finish my little quilt top. I think I may hand quilt it. I am not sure yet. Or should I machine quilt it? Any ideas? I need to finish it soon though or winter will be here lol. I bought this quilt pattern at the Indian Summer Quilt show in Fargo this year. It is a pattern by Buttermilk Basin called By Thy Hands September. It was my first time using a wool applique method. It was fun. Now to get it quilted.... I always procrastinate with the finishing of my quilts. I hope to post a finished pic in the next week or so. I work at the hospital the next 4 days so I will not have another day off for sewing until next week after today sigh...
This is my new blog. Thanks for looking! Have a great day! Lisa
