Above is my grandson "Jase" and one of my fur babies "Josie" in an antique toddler bed I was lucky to find and purchase last year. It will be wonderful for displaying some of my crib quilts in. I put it in an extra bedroom. The picture below shows some more detail. The pictures were taken a few months ago, my grandson is a year old already. I love using antiques and unique items to furnish my home.
I have been working on my Grand Illusion mystery quilt as time and life permits and am hoping to have the top sewn and in a flimsy status by the end of next Sunday. I have my 25 blocks completed. Some are pictured above and some below. I like to pin blocks to my lace curtains to use as a design wall sometimes. I baby sat my grandson this weekend and last weekend my dad was in the hospital, so I am further behind than I was hoping to be at this time. I am not rushing things though and am enjoying making this quilt. My corner squares will be scrappy and will be assorted reds, like I used in my blocks. I really love this quilt! I am happy with my color choices too. I am linking up with Bonnie Hunter in Quiltville this week. There are many people that have their quilts completed already, amazing. Thank you Bonnie Hunter for another amazing mystery quilt. Here is the link to check out everyone else's blogs and progress at Quiltville
Thanks for checking out my blog! Hope everyone has a wonderful week! Blessings,
Above is my part 5 units for my Grand Illusion Mystery quilt that I have been working on. I am linking up with Bonnie Hunter on her blog this week here is the link if you would like to see the other participants progress or if you are interested in making the mystery quilt check out her blog postings. Bonnie Hunter Grand Illusion Mystery quilt ink up Quiltville

It is going to be an amazing quilt. She released the final layout and directions last night New Years Eve. I love it. I will be working on putting mine together these next few days.

Above are my part 4 clues completed. I want my quilt to have a wintery/Christmasy feel to it so I chose deep greens and reds for in my quilt.

I used my Pfaff quilt Expression 4.0 for my clue 3 units. I like to use a variety of machines. All my other machines are vintage and antique and all are a lot of fun to sew with. My Pfaff is nice because its in a Koala cabinet.

My husband made me this oak recipe box for Christmas. I LOVE it. He even dove-tailed the joints. I collect vintage recipe cards and have been wanting one to put my cards and recipes in.
My Ford Mustang Playboy Pink Singer Featherweight is pictured above in photo. I was using her to sew double diamond units for my Bonnie Hunter mystery quilt. I chain stitched them on my Featherweight. (I had Gerald Holmes custom pain her for me. He did an amazing job.)

Last Friday the second clue was released for Bonnie Hunter's Grand Illusion Mystery quilt. I had fun sewing this second step. Her quilts are amazing and I love her Mystery quilts. She has a free mystery quilt for her blog followers every year that starts the day after Thanksgiving. I am linking up this week with her blog. Check out all the other link ups to see their progress and check out her blog for more information on her quilts and the mystery. I am so thankful for her generosity in offering a free mystery quilt. Thanks Bonnie! Here is her link Quiltville blog Bonnie Hunter

Here is a picture of one of my finished double diamond units for my Grand Illusion mystery quilt. They are really fun to make and in one of Bonnie's posts for the mystery quilt she gives us three different ways to make them. It is actually a very fun unit to make. Next week I will post my progress on the next step in which the clue comes out tomorrow morning. I forgot to take a picture of all my double diamond units sewn together. I will next week. Below is a Christmas quilt I finished up. It is quilted and I just finished hand stitching the binding on. I am going to try to get some outdoor pictures of it held open soon to post. It is about a twin size, it is folded on my quilt wall/rack shelf. The table runner under the tree I made this last summer. Have a great day and thank you for looking at my blog. Comments are always welcome if you'd like to leave one. Happy Holidays everyone!
Bonnie Hunter's Grand Illusion Mystery has finally arrived. I have been looking forward to her new mystery quilt for months. Clue #1 was released last friday on her blog I am linking up with her this week to show my first clue. Check out her site and the other participants blogs. It is going to be amazing. Her link at Quiltville

As you can see if you are doing the Mystery quilt, I have changed up my colors and fabrics. I am a huge fan of reproduction 1800's prints. I am using 2 constant fabrics, my black (tone on tone) and the parchment shirting print, the rest will be scrappy. Below is one of my units. I have completed all my units for the first clue. I am trying to resist starting a second one with another color way since I have today and tomorrow of from work. We will see. I will link up again next week and reveal my other color choices then for this first quilt.

Below is my completed Celtic Solstice mystery quilt from last years mystery of Bonnie Hunter's. I changed my colors up some last year too and used reproduction prints. It is my favorite quilt that I have ever made and I love the pattern. Hope everyone is having a great day! Thanks for looking at my blog.
I have my Celtic Solstice top almost completed. I just need to add my borders. Above it is pictured on a guest bed in an extra room. I really love this quilt pattern from Bonnie Hunter. I wanted a symbol of Spring in my blog today. Its been below zero with the wind chills here in Minnesota and I am anxiously awaiting Spring. Hope everyone is staying warm. Have a great day!
Here are some of my blocks on my design wall of my Celtic Solstice quilt I am working on by Bonnie Hunter. Here is a link to her site if you'd like to see more Celtic Solstice quilts in progress. Celtic Solstice part 6 link up They are all amazing. I like my colors I used. I substituted blacks for the greens and reds for the yellows. I have 13 more blocks to sew together and then I can finish putting my top together. I am really loving this quilt.
Above is a flannel baby girl blanket I made for my great niece on Thursday, my niece was in labor as I was sewing lots of love into the blanket for the new baby. I am hoping to go see her this week. Here in Minnesota its cold. I figured pink snowmen were cute for a January baby girl. She was named Brielle Crystal.
This is the lovely unit that Bonnie Hunter had us sew this week for her Celtic Solstice Mystery quilt. I am going to link up with her this week again at Celtic Solstice Mystery by Bonnie Hunter Check out the link to see everyone else's progress. I used the Easy Angle Ruler that Bonnie recommended and it was great. My units measured 3 1/2 inches when done. I love the scrappy units they make me happy! I love scrappy quilts and Bonnie's are amazing.

Here are all 100 of my pieces cut out and awaiting to be sewn. They all wanted to be sewn first but I made them behave and wait in lines like good little units should.

Here are some of my completed units content and smiling on my ironing board waiting to be in Bonnie's mystery quilt. I told them what an honor it is to be in one of her quilts and they were pleased.

These are my last 34 units waiting to be sewn together.
Last Friday's unit was 4 patches. I love 4 patches. I have all my steps completed so far. I am doing the smaller quilt. I love all the clues so far and am excited to see what the finish will look like. For this step I used oranges and blacks.

Some of my 4 patches laid out on the floor. I love the colors together.
I got to babysit my 8 day old grandson today while his parents went shopping. He is adorable. I was going to show him how to make 4 patches but he fell asleep lol.
Here is a quilt I made for my one year old niece for Christmas. I put it on my guest bed for the picture. I never made her a baby quilt so I decided to make her a big girl quilt. I will give it to her next week when I see her, I want to make her a dolly quilt to match tomorrow maybe. The next clue comes out tomorrow, I can't wait. Have a great day!
Here are my first few pinwheels for this clue. I love how the reds and oranges look together. I decided to not make my pinwheels a scrappy mix, just 2 colors and fabrics per pinwheel. Below are some of my half square triangles. I still have more to make with different fabrics, my 4th grandson was born yesterday so I was at the hospital for over 24 hours with my daughter. I will finish this clue tomorrow. I am linking up for the Celtic Solstice Mystery on Bonnie Hunter's blog at http://quiltville.blogspot.com/2013/12/celtic-solstice-mystery-monday-link-up_4572.html
These are oven mits below. The one on the left I found at a garage sale, it is vintage. The one on the right I made using pink and blue fabrics. It was fun, I made myself a pattern and plan on making more using different fabrics. I used buttons for the eyes and nose and embroidered on the whiskers. Have a great day!
These are pieces waiting to be sewn into chevrons. This is a great mystery and I have been having fun. I am doing Bonnie Hunter's awesome new mystery Celtic Solstice. Here are some of my cheddar and blue part one pieces that I was playing with on a piece of my yellow fabric that I will be including in my quilt top. I am using 1800 reproduction fabrics. Of course we have no idea what the blocks will look look like until much later but its always fun to play with the units. She has lots of information and tutorials on her site for the new mystery. I used the tri recs rulers like she showed on her site for the first time and they work great. All my pieces were perfect. A huge thank you to Bonnie for all her hard work and for letting us all enjoy the mystery for free. She is very generous!
Here are my 96 blue and neutral pieces stacked together on red fabric. I am planning on using reds too, unless I change my mind before the next step. I am doing the small quilt. She is offering directions for two sizes. I can always make more pieces later and do the king size. This quilt when finished will go in one of my extra bedrooms on an antique bed I spied and bought this summer. It snowed 5 inches yesterday here in Minnesota where I live. The picture below are some of my blue and neutral pieces on top of the fresh snow. The snow is super white and sparkly the photo was taken at midnight.
I love antiques and old quilts and there were plenty to see there. Hope you enjoy the photos. I think I took a picture of each bed and quilt I saw.
General Custer was even there. (smile) He was happy to pose for us. Later in the evening there was an Indian pow pow which we stayed for. That was very fun to watch. There were Indians from many different tribes doing different dances. Custer was gone before the Pow Wow.
I have more photos of more beds with old quilts still from this day. If anyone is interested leave me a comment and I can post more in a different blog.

I haven't blogged for awhile summer kept me pretty busy. I worked at my job, had a huge garden. I started my own pepper and tomato plants (90) which all got planted and used. I canned 48 quarts spaghetti sauce, 80 pints applesauce, 72 quarts dill pickles, lots of jams, tomatoes, peaches, grape juice, 80 jars salsa, beans, carrots, potatoes and a few other things.
I did do a bunch of sewing. I will save that for a different post. Last few days I have been sewing my first step for a Bonnie Hunter mystery quilt. Celtic Solstice. I am going to link up in a different post. I just finished all my star points tonight. I got my pattern for my quilt from this book called Stashblasters. The pattern is called Goulash. I am calling my quilt "Scrappy Bear Paw Quilt." The authors are from my favorite quilt store called Gathering Friends Quilt Shop. They published many different pattern books. If you are interested their store is in Bird Island, MN. Its worth the trip. They have so many beautiful quilts hanging on display there. They also have a web site. I have no affiliation to them. I just love their patterns and shop. The two pictures below show the pattern book and a picture of the finished quilt they made. I fell in love with it when I went there last fall. I had to buy my fabric and the pattern book at their shop after I saw it in person . I love the scrappy look.
My husband built me this fabulous notions cabinet. The pictures show it unstained and finished. He made it out of solid oak wood. Its built solid to last for over 100 years. I love it. He likes to do some woodworking in his shop. (He has built me oak quilt stands, furniture and oak quilt shelves in the past.) I saw a picture of an antique solid oak cabinet on the internet and showed my husband and he drew up plans to make me this. He designed it to my taste. The doors have pegs to hold thread spools and have recessed areas to hold things also. There are fun cubbies and two drawers. I will have fun filling it with a all my favorite notions. (Pins, embroidery scissors, needles, thread ect.) It looks great now in my sewing room. Hope you enjoy the pictures!
We still have quite a bit of snow here in Central MN. I am waiting for spring to arrive. It has been a long winter here. I haven't posted for a while. I have been working on sewing 4 patches to make a scrappy 4 patch quilt from 1800's reproduction fabrics. It will have 625 four patches in the top. Each four patch will be from 2 different fabrics and each patch will have different fabrics. I need 1250 different fabrics. I have over 400 4 patches sewn together so far. I included a few pics of a few of my squares. I am sewing my scrappy four patch quilt on my Singer Featherweight. Its such a great machine. I will post a new blog on the finished top when I am done.
I have also started a scrappy bear paw quilt. I will blog on that another day. I have to leave for work soon.
Here are some pics of a few of my ceramic pieces that I bisque fired weeks ago. I still need to glaze them and fire them again. I will blog on them when I get that done. I haven't spent much time in my ceramic studio this winter. I have been having too much fun sewing.
These dishes below are little trinket dishes that I thought would make cute pin holders when finished. I may give a couple away on my blog if anyone is interested. I need to glaze them first, so it may be a few weeks. Well I gotta go. Thanks for viewing my blog! Feel free to leave comments if you'd like. Have a great day!

I have been making some reversible aprons. All of these aprons are fully reversible, with contrasting fabrics on both sides. They were fun to make. Sometimes its fun to make something different for a change of pace. I made the western one for my 24 year old daughter Cassandra who loves horses and has five horses that she rides.

This is a full apron I made using a pretty red, black and white floral fabric. I used a black and white print for the contrast. The picture below is the reverse side. It even has a pocket too. The pockets don't show up too well in my pictures. The pockets have a cuff fabric in a contrast color.

The apron below I made in a fun chicken fabric. The reverse side is red with chicken fabric for the contrast.

The apron below is made with some bird fabric from my stash that I never found the right quilt to use it in. I think it looks great in the apron.

This is the reverse side of the apron below. Sorry the picture ended up sideways. What apron is your favorite? I love hear hear feedback if you'd like to comment. Thanks for looking! Have a great day.

Here is a picture of some corn bags I made a few days ago. They work great as warm packs and you can even freeze them for ice packs. They are made from flannel material and shell corn. You heat them in the microwave for 2 1/2 minutes for this size. I will explain how to make them below.

Take a fat quarter made of flannel or 100% cotton material and fold it in half, them cut it in half to get two rectangles. Sew around the edges leaving an opening for turning and filling with shell corn. (Use shell corn that is not dusty and is clean.)

Fill the bag with 5 cups shell corn or you may use rice if desired. I like to use a canning funnel to fill my bags.

After filling the bag with corn or rice slip stitch the opening shut by hand or machine and enjoy. They keep their heat for a long time.

My husband bought me a Singer Featherweight 221 sewing machine for Christmas yaa...! I have been wanting one for a long time and wanted one in excellent condition. This one is perfect. I brought it to my sewing machine guy at the sewing center to get lubed and inspected before I started using her. I named her Fredricka after my late great-grandmother. I enjoyed sewing with her today. I love vintage machines. I am lucky also to have such a wonderful husband.
Here is a picture of it hanging after I finished hand stitching the binding to the backing tonight. My snowman is smiling and happy to be finally hanging on my wall. My fingers are sore from stitching.
Here is a closer up view of the snowman. He is hand appliqued and made from wool. I can't wait to start another quilt. Or maybe I should finish another one I have started already. I have so many quilts I want to make and complete this winter.
I spent some time in my ceramic studio today also. I haven't been out there lately so I went out there and did some organizing. I am hoping to do a bisque firing in my kiln Tuesday or Wednesday when I have another day off work. I have a big load to fire. I want to give some of my pieces away for Christmas gifts for family and friends. I need to get going on my firings to have them ready for Christmas gifts. They have to be bisque fired then glazed and them fired again. I will try to remember to take a picture of some of my stoneware pieces next time I go out to my studio. Then I can show you a picture of them after I glaze them and fire them. I enjoy making ceramics also. I mostly do functional wares. Nothing super fancy. I love hobbies! Have a great week everyone! Here are a couple pictures of my completed fall wall hanging. I completed it and hung it about a week ago. Its still officially fall at least. I ended up doing just a little machine quilting on it. My snowman wall hanging is almost ready. I just have to machine quilt it and sew on the binding. The crow quilt hanger I picked up at the Minneapolis Sewing/Quilting convention this year from a vender, thought it was cute. I haven't had much free time to quilt lately. I have been busy at work. I did have Thanksgiving off through the weekend which was very nice. We got a little snow Thanksgiving evening and it has stayed. The temperatures have been cold here in Central MN. Hope to post more pics soon. Have a great day! Lisa
I finished this quilt top today. It still needs to be quilted and binded. I hope to complete it and my fall mini wall hanging top by Thanksgiving weekend. See previous posts for picture.
I have been rereading the Elm Creek Quilts novels by Jennifer Chiaverini. They are wonderful books! I still have to buy her latest book that was just released. The Runaway Quilt is one of my favorites in the series.
Here is a picture of some of my "critters". They are Nigerian Dwarf and Pygmy goats. They make great pets and are fun to watch in their pasture. There was a little snow on the ground here in Minnesota yesterday but it melted today. The temperature was in the 40's. Some of the lakes here are getting ice on them burr... Hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving! Lisa
Okay so I couldn't resist starting on my next project. I got four nine patches done and cut out my pieces for the block for my next wall hanging. Its another pattern from Buttermilk Basin. It has a snowman to be done in wool applique.
I had to take some time away from sewing to go outside to collect eggs and feed my critters. Some of my chickens wanted to pose for a picture and be in my blog. I have different varieties of chickens. I like to collect eggs of different colors. My Americana chickens lay green/turquoise colored eggs. Me and my husband had green eggs and ham for supper lol. Please comment on my blog if you'd like. I would love to hear some comments. Or become a follower. When I get 100 followers I will have a fat quarter pack give away. It was nice to have the day off work today to finish my little quilt top. I think I may hand quilt it. I am not sure yet. Or should I machine quilt it? Any ideas? I need to finish it soon though or winter will be here lol. I bought this quilt pattern at the Indian Summer Quilt show in Fargo this year. It is a pattern by Buttermilk Basin called By Thy Hands September. It was my first time using a wool applique method. It was fun. Now to get it quilted.... I always procrastinate with the finishing of my quilts. I hope to post a finished pic in the next week or so. I work at the hospital the next 4 days so I will not have another day off for sewing until next week after today sigh...
This is my new blog. Thanks for looking! Have a great day! Lisatraditional_quilterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09657547080240515841noreply@blogger.com1
